Bertha Hidalgo, PhD, MPH, assistant professor in the Department of Epidemiology, has been named Chair of the Minority Affairs Committee of the American College of Epidemiology (ACE), which “serves the interests of the profession and its members through advocating for issues pertinent to epidemiology, a credential-based admission and promotion process, sponsorship of scientific meetings, publications and educational activities, and recognizing outstanding contributions to the field.”

As Chair, Dr. Hidalgo will lead the committee—comprised of Fellows or Members appointed by the President—in their mission to assess the status of minorities in the field and the role of ACE in promoting increased minority representation not only in epidemiology but also in ACE, as well as recommending actions that will increase research regarding health concerns of minority populations. Dr. Hidalgo’s term will run from October 2014 to 2017.
