Dr. Ambika Ashraf is an associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics/ Pediatric Endocrinology. She earned M.B.B.S, DCH and MD degrees from the Calicut University, Kerala, India. Subsequently, she completed pediatric residency and pediatric endocrinology fellowship at the Children’s hospital, University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is board certified in Pediatrics, Pediatric Endocrinology and Clinical lipidology (ABCL).

Dr. Ashraf completed a K12 grant under the mentorship of Dr. Barbara Gower and Dr. Kenneth McCormick. Afterwards, she has conducted multiple research projects assessing the relationships of vitamin D on calcium homeostasis, insulin resistance and cardiovascular health in children and adolescents. She also has research and clinical interest in children with primary lipid disorders. In addition, she is involved in multiple research projects in children with secondary dyslipidemia due to diabetes and related conditions. She is the director of the Pediatric Lipid Clinic at Children’s of Alabama, UAB.

Research Interests

Insulin resistance, obesity, diabetes, lipid disorders, metabolic bone disorders
