The Obesity Society Early Career Research Grant goes to Dr. Daniel Smith

Congratulations are extended to Daniel Larry Smith, Jr., PhD of the Department of Nutrition Sciences as a recipient of one of the two 2011 Early-Career Research Grants from The Obesity Society for up to $25,000. The UAB Nutrition Obesity Research Center rejoices in this significant achievement!

The Obesity Society received 90 applications of which Dr. Smith was among the top 12 invited to submit a full proposal for the awards being offered. The Society's Scientific Review Committee selected his application entitled "Reduced Ambient Temperature as a Confounding Agent in Obesity Drug Discovery" as one of the two funded awards.

Grant recipients will be acknowledged at Obesity 2011, the 29th Annual Scientific Meeting of The Obesity Society in Orlando, FL. Acknowledgements will be made during the President's Address on Saturday, October 1, 2011 from 5:30pm – 7:30pm at the Orlando World Center Marriott Resort & Convention Center. And will further be acknowledged in The Obesity Society's September 2011 Newsletter and included in the Obesity 2011 Final Program.

The grant is a one-year pilot study with a start date of September 12, 2011
