August 23, 2013

Andrew Brown, Ph.D., Postdoctoral Trainee in the Obesity Training Program (DK062710) at the Nutrition Obesity Research Center (NORC) and the Office of Energetics, was awarded first place in the postdoctoral poster competition in the Nutritional Epidemiology Research Interest Section of the American Society for Nutrition (ASN). The title of the abstract was "Sound advice or biased reporting? Breakfast as a strategy to reduce or prevent obesity or weight gain," with co-authors Drs. Michelle Bohan Brown and David Allison.

Dr. Brown was selected as one of three finalists to present his poster at ASN's Scientific Sessions and Annual Meeting in April as part of the 2013 Experimental Biology meetings in Boston, MA. Experimental Biology is a gathering of over 14,000 attendees representing six sponsoring societies comprising the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology.

The Nutritional Epidemiology Research Interest Section received a record number of submissions this year. Dr. Brown received the award based on the content of the abstract and the quality of his oral presentation of the poster.
