Hidalgo wins B-Metro “Rising Star” Fusion Award

Bertha Hidalgo, PhD, MPH, assistant professor in the Department of Epidemiology (former post-doctoral fellow associated with the Nutrition Obesity Research Center, or NORC), has been honored with a B-Metro magazine Fusion Award in the “Rising Star” category. Presented by the City of Birmingham, the awards recognize people in the city who “represent excellence in their chosen fields and foster, cultivate, and exemplify a wide array of diversity in our community” and “embrace the excellence of all citizens of any race, faith, gender, sexual orientation, age, or disability.” Award recipients will be honored at a luncheon to be held on October 14, 2014, at the Birmingham Sheraton Hotel Ballroom.

Dr. Hidalgo earned a BA in Human Biology from Stanford University, an MPH in Biostatistics and Epidemiology from the University of Southern California, and a PhD in Epidemiology from UAB. Her primary areas of interest are cardiovascular disease, genetic epidemiology, and Latino health.
