Affuso named Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine

Olivia Affuso, PhD, associate scientist in the Nutrition Obesity Research Center (NORC) and Center for Exercise Medicine and associate professor in the Department of Epidemiology, has been awarded Fellow status in the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the most prestigious distinction within the ACSM, which is dedicated to “advancing and integrating scientific research to provide educational and practical applications of exercise science and sports medicine.”

As a Fellow of the ACSM (FACSM), Dr. Affuso will have the opportunity to become more involved in the internal operations of the organization, such as serving on various committees as well as holding leadership positions within the College. She will be officially recognized as an FACSM at the ACSM’s 62nd Annual Meeting, to be held in May 2015 in San Diego.

Dr. Affuso’s current research projects include the development of a novel method for measuring body composition, several meta-analytic studies for use in the development of effective childhood obesity interventions, and design issues in obesity randomized trials. She has also conducted several community-based pediatric obesity intervention trials.
