August 31, 2016

Tapan Mehta, PhDTapan Mehta, PhD, assistant professor in the Department of Health Services Administration and the Nutrition Obesity Research Center (NORC), has been elected Secretary/Treasurer of The Obesity Society (TOS) Health Services Research Section for 2016-2017. The goals of TOS’s Health Services Research Section include encouraging collaboration to further obesity-related research pertaining to prevention, the quality of care, and the implementation of treatment programs, as well as to promote the development of early career investigators conducting research in the field.

In his new role within TOS—which will commence after ObesityWeekTM 2016, to be held October 31 through November 4, in New Orleans—Dr. Mehta will be expected to attend quarterly phone calls with section leaders, assist with writing newsletters, and assist with coordination of abstract awards and section meeting planning at the annual ObesityWeek meeting. Following completion of the one-year term as Secretary/Treasurer, he will rotate into the "Chair Elect" position for the group for one year, after which he will become Chair for one year, for a total 3-year commitment to section duties.

Dr. Mehta’s primary research interests lie in aggregating and integrating silos of genomic, epidemiological, and administrative data, to investigate interesting scientific questions, through novel applications of statistical methods and computing platforms. He is especially interested in pursuing scientific inquiry in topics related to obesity, longevity, disability, and health policy and interventions.
